Our 2024 Highlights!

In 2024, our Cooperative continued to contribute to the energy transition. I want to acknowledge the tireless work of our volunteer Board and Executive for making this year, our fourth full year as a cooperative, a success.

2024 Highlights

Renewable Energy:  BVGEC’s four community solar installations have produced over 500,000 kWh of renewable energy for its hosts.  This volume is equivalent to the average electricity consumption of 70 Alberta households!

BVGEC would like to acknowledge the continued support of our host sites: Ralph Connor Memorial United Church in Canmore, I-Place Condo Corp. in Canmore, Baymag Inc. in Exshaw, and Temple B’nai Tikvah in Calgary.

In 2024, these installations will have offset about 250 Te of CO2 emissions that would otherwise come from Alberta-based electricity generators. BVGEC continues to work with potential new hosts, which we hope to bring online in 2025.

Membership: Our membership base continues to grow, and its members continue to receive discounted electricity rates from BVGEC’s subsidiary, Rocky Mountain Community Energy.

Investors: BVGEC issued its initial investors their first dividends, and work has begun on a dividend re-investment option for future dividends.

Community Energy Cooperative Canada: As a founding member of this national organization, BVGEC has representation on the Board and is active in the Alberta membership, which shares expertise, advocacy, and future investment opportunities across the Alberta Renewable Energy Coops.

Rocky Mountain Community Energy: RMCE, BVGEC’s energy retail enterprise, celebrated its second anniversary and continues to grow its customer base. This energy retail business produces revenue, which is rolled back into the coop and our renewable energy projects…keeping our energy dollars in the community.

If you are unlucky enough to be on the
residential rate option (RRO) with one of the major retailers, you still have the opportunity to switch to RMCE's highly competitive rates instead.

If you want to get more involved in transforming Albertas' Energy, we have volunteer opportunities in accounting, customer relations, and business management and promotion (RMCE).

BVGEC looks forward to continuing to "be the change" and making renewable energy affordable and accessible in the Bow Valley in 2025 and beyond.

May you and your loved ones have a safe and joyous holiday season.
