Welcome to the Board - Peter Driftmier!
Peter has been involved in BVGEC as a member and investor and recently supported as a host site coordinator for BVGEC's first array in Calgary. He is a proud member of Alberta's other two operating renewable energy co-ops. He is passionate about this model to get more community investment out of Bay Street and into greening our local grids.
He has prior experience in cooperatives, having helped found a worker-owned cooperative bakery in Calgary (The Grain Exchange) through collaborative development. As part of this, he took a cooperative development course through COOPzone. His primary board experience comes from his engagement with Temple B'nai Tikvah as Membership Chair and currently as Environment Chair. Peter holds a Masters in Social Work, works in mental health therapy with refugee and immigrant youth, and participates in human rights advocacy and community organizing on the side.
Retiring Board Members
We would like to thank those retiring from the BVGEC Board: Toby Brodkorb and Jamie Goth. Toby will continue to support our project development team, just not in a board role.
As a dedicated member of the BVGEC Board, Toby Brodkorb played a pivotal role in advancing the organization's renewable energy initiatives. As the project lead for the I-place installation and key team member on the Baymag solar project installation committee, Toby demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic planning skills. He was instrumental in coordinating with key stakeholders, managing project timelines and budgets, and ensuring the installations met our environmental impact goals.
Under his guidance, the I-place project successfully integrated sustainable energy solutions into a community hub, enhancing energy resilience and reducing long-term operational costs. The Baymag solar installation set a benchmark for industrial-scale clean energy adoption, significantly cutting carbon emissions while promoting corporate responsibility.
As a forward-thinking board member, Jamie Goth played a central role in aligning our organisation’s initiatives with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS). His efforts focused on integrating SDG principles into BVGEC’s strategic planning, project design, and community outreach.
Jamie contributed to the development and localization of key SDG targets. By identifying measurable progress indicators, he helped ensure BVGEC’s work remained impactful and accountable. His leadership advanced the co-operative’s sustainability objectives and helped position BVGEC as a regional leader in community-driven climate action aligned with global goals.
Together their contributions advanced BVGEC’s mission and strengthened the region’s commitment to a more sustainable energy future. We, and the Bow Valley, are thankful for the time and effort you dedicated to the BVGEC. We couldn't have done it without you!
Thank you! 💚
